I WONDER how many of us are totally disillusioned (I’m being polite) with the BBC, and ITV for that matter, with the dross that fills our screens these days.

It seems that if you are not into Netflix or Lovefilm, Sky or Virgin On Demand, or buying DVDs then you will have to watch one of the many re-runs of the Bourne trilogy, The Shawshank Redemption, Indiana Jones, or how about Gone With The Wind?

I imagine that the BBC’s enormous budget must go on paying the cast of EastEnders, a never-ending story of dysfunctional families where the storylines are inspired by those that appear on The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Could it be that the BBC is behind Netflix or Lovefilm?

Would that be the reason for its reluctance in screening something more recent than 1980, with the idea being that if you want to watch a more current film then you pay for it?

Let’s hope that the BBC will start screening something worth the fee we all pay, but don’t bet on it.
