DON’T fight us, join us. That’s the only message I can give after I read of the taxi drivers’ problems on Friday, January 10. I too got so sick of the traffic jams on my five-mile trip to work – “there must be a solution” I thought.
And there was! It sailed past my car as I sat on the Itchen Bridge 3 weeks ago. I went on to Google and found a local dealer and went and purchased a £250 bicycle. Friday alone I must have passed some four miles of standing traffic.
I’ve saved a fortune on fuel. I’ve even lost a bit of weight and managed to get to work on time (a
lot of bosses are tearing their hair out over the traffic as it is affecting their economy).
A quick check shows that a good bike can be had for as little as £200, even a folding bike for £250 (great if you don’t have anywhere to lock it, just stash it under the desk). I even saw in the shop a £700 electric one.
I got a deal on mine with lights and other kit. I really don’t know why more drivers like myself don’t use this option.
