“WE are aware of some delays” says Councillor Jacqui Rayment (Daily Echo, January 11).

Some delays? What a joke that is. There are always delays in and out of Southampton when ever it is a busy shopping time or there is a Saints game on or cruise ships are in because the roads in and out of Southampton are a joke.

Who ever planned the West Quay area did not allow for the volume of traffic that uses the area. Whoever put a football ground in the middle of a busy town did not think of the traffic that would just bring the whole of the Southampton area to a standstill. The football ground should had been built at Nursling where there is a link to the motorway.

When West Quay was planned a flyover link road should have been built going directly into the docks; it should have been paid for by the docks and the big cruise companies as it is big
business for Southampton.

But it is just not this area; too many routes in and around Southampton have been made too narrow just to slow traffic down, but all this causes is long delays, and when they do road works they are a joke – just look at the toll bridge works going on at the moment. What a shambles. A trained monkey could do better.

We are aware of some delays? Well Cllr Rayment, the people of Southampton and all who visit can clearly see you and your fellow councillors are clueless as to what to do.
