I HAVE watched the press reports of the tragic conditions the people of Somerset are experiencing, and it strikes me that the Government has two levels of generosity.

About four weeks ago, when we were told that the Philippines had been hit with storms within a couple of days the Government and also the population of Britain had gathered about £25m and equipment for these unfortunate souls.

I feel that if we are able to do this for people on the other side of the world why is it that Mr Cameron had to make a votebased speech of the things he intends to do for the Somerset levels?

So far all we have seen is four very large pipes in one area pumping out a meagre amounts of water, so much more could have been done to alleviate the suffering of our own people.
