KEITH Adamson (Letters, April 16) questioned progress on the Ageas Bowl golf course. Construction of the new Hilton Hotel at the Ageas Bowl includes a new 18-hole golf course, with a new clubhouse in the hotel.

The current work involves importing thousands of tons of soil that is being sculptured to create an exciting and high quality course that will take advantage of the existing rolling landscape and include a variety of water features including a large lake and fountain.

The tee shot on the opening hole promises to be very challenging indeed. Seeding of the new course will start this autumn with the first nine holes ready to play in summer 2015. The remaining nine holes will be completed in 2016 when the full course will be opened.

It was always hoped that the existing nine-hole course would remain open until the new course was ready.

Unfortunately Southern Water had to undertake emergency works to a mains pipe that has meant this has not been possible.

This is an exciting project to improve golf provision alongside world-class cricket and leisure.
