COUNCILLOR Dan Fitzhenry (Letters, May 31) slates the Labour council for not providing certain bus services within Southampton.

With the lack of financial resources allocated by the Government, they have the unenviable task of making a silk purse from a sow’s ear in many areas of administration.

I feel he would be better employed writing to the chairmen of the bus companies concerned and requesting them to reinvest 20 to 30 per cent of their annual profits to help their long-suffering, semidestitute users to have the services that they require.

So much for “bus deregulation”!
