THANK you Southampton and to the organisers of Let’s Rock for bringing yet another great line-up of acts together to entertain a crowd of approximately 10,000 ’80s music fans.

It was great to see so many people of varying ages appreciate a sun-kissed day on the Common, enjoying picnics with their families or chilling with a group of friends over either a pint or two or a jug of Pimms.

The entire event was both well staffed and managed; separate areas for those wishing to set out chairs and blankets, a VIP area and clear space down the front for anyone wishing to get a little closer to the action.

A good mix of fast food vendors, reasonable prices for the booze and no long queues for the loos that were kept clean and well stocked with loo roll and hand sanitiser throughout the day.

All the acts put in an energetic and enthusiastic performance, including The Real Thing (You To Me Are Everything), Heaven 17 (Temptation) and Go West (Faithful) but it was Billy Ocean who quite rightly stole the show as the headline act, knocking out hits such as Red Light Spells Danger, When the Going Gets Tough and finally rounding off the evening with Carribbean Queen.

Well done also to those who really entered into the spirit of the day by dressing up, especially Mr Motivator and his aerobics class who kept the crowd entertained throughout the day with their dance moves. Genius.

All in all a terrific way to step back in time for a few hours and let your hair down – well worth the two-hour journey.

Bring on 2015!
