WE need your help to find some of the estimated 10,000 people whose health is threatened by undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes in the Solent area.

Diabetes UK is holding a Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow event at Newport, Isle of Wight, on August 27 and 28 to carry out risk assessments on members of the public.

We need volunteers who can help us to raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK.

They will be working with Diabetes UK staff, talking to members of the public and handing out information about diabetes.

One in seven adults is at high risk of developing the condition and the free checks help to identity those who may have the condition but don’t realise it, or those at risk of developing it.

Anyone identified as at risk is then referred to their GP. Early diagnosis is an important step to accessing the right treatment and care.

Diabetes can lead to health complications including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and amputation. Half of people with Type 2 diabetes will show signs of some of these complications by the time they are diagnosed, but risks of developing these can be reduced by being seen by a doctor as early as possible.

Volunteer expenses will be covered.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the roadshow can email south.east@diabetes.org.uk or call 01372 720 148.
