Alan Kebbell (Letters, July 22) is calling for NATO to help the Ukrainian government to banish Russian separatists – especially as Americans have now lost their lives due to the present conflict.
I would agree that America does not need much poking before its politicians go overboard.
Ukraine is culturally much divided and should NATO have a mandate to start killing then this conflict may end up head to head with Russia. Both NATO and Russia possess weapons of mass destruction, and any escalation may therefore prove to be the war to end all wars.
A better solution would be to let the United Nations do its duty and by then perhaps both Ukraine and Russia will have started being more friendly together.
