PHIL Woodward is quite right to point out that Southampton would benefit from a park-and-ride scheme, similar to those operating in Portsmouth and Winchester (Rival city’s park-and-ride is another nail in the coffin, Letters, July 28).
Southampton’s heavy traffic levels result in high levels of both congestion and air pollution – in fact, the city is one of the top ten air pollution hotspots in the UK.
A park-and-ride would go a long way towards alleviating both of these issues.
Southampton & District Green Party believes that the empty car park on the northbound side of Wide Lane would make an ideal location for a park-and-ride scheme, and we are currently looking further into this.
