WHAT do your two correspondents Mr. Lowe (Letters, August 23) and regular letter writer Councillor David Harrison (August 25) have in common?

Well, neither of them lives in the New Forest National Park yet both want to impose their own values on those who do. In this case setting up a bike hire scheme to add to all the other pressures on this sensitive area.

Meanwhile, Steve Green from Hedge End (Your Say, August 23) says “Boris” bikes work in London so why not in the New Forest?

Actually, Boris bikes have been a financial disaster for Londoners who have been compelled to subsidise them to the tune of £1,400 for each cycle or £11 million a year, despite sponsorship from Barclays Bank. The bank has now pulled the plug on it.

So well done to the National Park Authority for keeping these wheeled pests at bay and thus helping to put off the day when the whole place becomes a giant theme park for the urban masses.
