I see that the Mayflower Theatre has given a top of the bill status in its annual pantomime to the reality TV personality Gok Wan. Famous for what??? Answers on a post card please.
Some years ago it did the same thing with the Big Brother winner ‘Nadia’ who (in a musical production) couldn’t hold a note if it was stitched on her. What a contrast to the other top of the bill performer the very talented Brian Conley who has spent years perfecting his stage craft to be a truly genuine theatrical performer.
It is a free country and The Mayflower is free to hire who it wants to, but please spare a thought for the very many truly talented performers who would love to be given the sort of star status Mr Wan has after their years of grafting through the ranks to achieve success.
I will not be going to see this show and I apologise to Brian Conley and the other cast members who deserve their place in the show.
