I WRITE from the human aspect of the future of Woodside Lodge care home in Maybush, which is real life for my mum and our family.

Mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia in September 2009, a month after my dad passed away.

Between the family we all cared for Mum in her home, which was not without its daily challenges. Within the last two years we needed help from social services and had a package of half an hour in the morning and evening, to shower, dress, give medication and breakfast and tea. Many times they failed to turn up at the correct time or at all, so we were always there to step in to make sure Mum was OK.

Mum suffered several falls and after an admission to hospital, it was deemed unsafe for her to go back to her home. Social services offered Woodside, which was perfect for Mum and the family as it was close by.

This was the end of April. Mum settled in really well, and after a month Woodside were happy for her to stay. I am very angry that they let Mum go through the stress of having to move from her home to go to what is a homely, secure environment with caring staff, only to be told she may have to move again.

I implore the councillors that we have elected to do the right thing and not close Woodside. These vulnerable people fought for this country, don’t fail them.
