I, along with everyone else I have spoken to, wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments of Miss AA Garraway (Letters, December 9).
Southampton city centre is drab and uninspiring and especially noticeable when one visits neighbouring towns.
Imagine what could be done with the Bargate, for instance. It could become a wonderful feature with a Christmas tree and a few lights.
However, all is not lost. If you take a stroll along West Quay Road you will find an abundance of lights. Admittedly, the colours are restricted to red, amber and green, and they may not sparkle, but they certainly change colour!
