This was publicly announced by Mr Chris Chester, business manager for First Bus, at the Weston Community Forum on November 27, following complaints regarding the Number 11 service.
In order to remove all possible doubt, will Councillor Simon Letts, the Leader of Southampton City Council, tell us all plainly the gross percentage cut in overall Central Government funding received by Southampton City Council, since the General Election of May 6, 2010; we can then judge whether the current abysmal state of support in Southampton is due to Tory cuts or inappropriate priorities of our Labour Council?
Councillor Paul Lewzey, a senior Labour councillor with a background in Social Services, could not give us this global figure of basic Council funding at the Fairness Commission meeting.
He actually stated: “Your information is probably better than mine.”
If Southampton City Council don’t actually know how much money they have available, it is no wonder support services in the city are in crisis!
TOM DOAK, Weston, Southampton.
