Regarding the KFC development at the Rushington roundabout in Totton, I would completely endorse the points made by the head teacher of Hounsdown School and more.

I cannot believe that the views of the majority of people living near the development site, plus the views of NFDC councillors, have counted for nothing – is this what the current administration calls democracy?

The A35 at this point is a very dangerous three-lane road and is the walk-to-school route for those attending both Hounsdown and Eling schools, plus there is a youth club next to the site on Eling Recreation Ground, making it almost inevitable that there will be road traffic accidents involving vehicles accessing and exiting the site and pedestrians.

Also, whatever happened to the guidelines to not site fast food outlets near schools and to safeguard sites of special scientific interest (river reed beds, etc)?

It seems that large corporations nearly always get their way and communities are being forced to accept developments and facilities that are not wanted by local people. The current planning system is weighted entirely in favour of the applicant and needs urgent review, but obviously this will not help change this travesty for Totton.
