I AM a retired pensioner and I live in North East Road, Sholing, Southampton.

I am not normally a complainer but just a few days ago I witnessed something that made me rather irate.

I was walking down North East Road when, coming towards me, was a young mother pushing a pushchair containing a very young child and also holding the hand of another young child.

As she neared me she was forced to leave the pavement and walk in the middle of the road because a motorist had parked his car right across the pavement and she could not get by.

North East Road is a fairly busy road and this lady and her children could have been in real danger.

Today I walked down to the shops and counted 14 cars parked halfway across the pavements. Surely this is a very selfish and inconsiderate thing to do?

I always thought pavements were for pedestrians so why is it that the police seem to turn a blind eye to things like this?
