A FEW days ago I received a missive in which the chairman of Chandler’s Ford Parish Council, Margaret Atkinson, seems proud to have accepted the responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of facilities, for which Eastleigh Borough Council (EBC) was previously responsible.

Cllr Atkinson is reported to have said: “It is disappointing that the borough council has allowed some of the facilities to fall into a state of disrepair, however we are delighted that we can now get on with the job of bringing these assets up to the standard required by parishioners.”

At this point I assumed that EBC was going to pay for the work but apparently not, as the residents of Chandler’s Ford will pay an extra £20 in council tax to cover the cost.

Absolute folly. It seems that we have paid EBC in past years to maintain these facilities and are now expected to pay a second time.

To my mind this makes the negotiations between EBC and the parish council null and void.

The residents of Chandler’s Ford appear to be expected to make good the failings of EBC.

Please, Cllr Atkinson, renegotiate the contract without penalising the residents of Chandler’s Ford.

ERNEST PULLEN, Chandler’s Ford.
