WHEN I arrived at 12.55pm for a meeting with Dr Alan Whitehead MP at 1pm to discuss the forthcoming Parliamentary vote on replacing Trident nuclear submarines, he had already left.

I was pleased that his office had contacted our organiser and two of our group had been able to meet him at an earlier time, necessitated by a change in Parliamentary business.

However, most of our group were unable to meet him as we had not been told of the time change.

There are many reasons for not replacing Trident submarines with new nuclear subs, the main ones being that this would increase the risk of nuclear war, the missiles on the subs are not under independent British control, and the vast sums of money involved would be better spent fighting global poverty and defending us against terrorists.
