THE 20 jobs created by Tesco on the former Shell garage site at Bitterne Park will be poor compensation for the loss of shops and their staff that will possibly follow at the local shops nearby where parking has always been a problem.
It seems councils almost do what the supermarket giants want. Recently it was announced on local radio that councillors in Ryde, Isle of Wight, had given Tesco permission to enlarge their out of town store as it would not effect other shops.
In return Tesco would give £190,000 to improve Ryde town centre and a further £50,000 plus to improve the bus service to Tesco.
I rest my case - choice will go.
