I AM not a historian, but I can still remember when in school, we were taught about the invasions upon Britain, included that of the Saxons, Romans, Vikings, Normans and several others.

In other words, from Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Netherlands, and France. Those today, are part of the European Union.

Why on earth, do some of our very own people now want to distance themselves from their past?

Strangely enough, often those who make up, the United Kingdom Independence Party! Our Royal Family, as we have been reminded again this week, have a German connection, and beyond.

Indeed, if Germany had a monarchy, it may well be the one we have here. A British king or queen reigning over Germany.

All that I am suggesting is for people to look into our history to understand that we are not all that different from our European cousins, and that we should be united.

It would be extremely hard to find a family, which is purely English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish because of all the invasions.

Then, we went off to invade about one third of the world to create the so-called British Empire.

As for myself I can trace back that my family were at one time from Scotland on my father’s side and from Ireland on my mother’s side. Plus I have direct relatives in Wales.

I consider myself as English, then British and, of course for all the reasons mentioned, a European.

I suggest to UKIP members and supporters. Do look into your family tree. Stop fighting those you could well be related to.
