I READ read that the train fares have risen over 25 per cent in the last five years easily out pacing wage rises.

I have a senior rail card and often trawl the internet for a deal which sees me off on the tracks to various interesting places but I do not have to be anywhere on time or travel every day at peak times.

I know people who do and they do not find anything pleasurable in rail travel especially the ones who commute.

I must draw the conclusion that rail travel is fine unless you have to use it for work or important appointments.
