FULL marks to fellow Millbrook residents worried about the loss of trees and green spaces.
Despite being built as Millbrook Park estate it can look rather desolate but some of its best assets are the few remaining stands of trees, such as the oaks in Wimpson Lane which are up to 200 years old and the marvellous group of 50-year-old beeches on Redbridge Hill opposite the fire station.
It is essential these are not lost and it is not good enough for planners to say they will plant two saplings for each tree lost.
One can’t value or compare the glories of a mature tree with a sapling which will take many years to grow, particularly as once planted they nearly always are forgotten, neglected, vandalised and disappear for good.
