ALAN Blandford from Southampton (letters April 12), tells us he was lying in bed with his tongue in his cheek.

Was it possible he was snoozing at the point he questions whether the ‘Greens know anything’ and wonders ‘what our policies are if we ever get into power?’

In Brighton 2010, the exceptional candidate Caroline Lucas MP had smashed through a glass ceiling built to deflect politicians outside of the establishment.

As party leader she had helped build a formidable force, and now across the country there over 61,000 members inside the Green Party of England and Wales.

In Southampton we are standing a full slate of candidates in the local elections and there are a full range of policies to be read up from our website. www.southamptongreens.org.uk.

To give a few examples, we want to protect the homeless and rough sleepers in our city.

We oppose the Public Protection Space Orders set out to segregate the homeless from citizens working, holidaying and shopping in our city.

We have pledged to tackle congestion and air quality, which is a continual problem.

In contrast the city council believes it is more important to keep the urban car parks full.

Alan should be pleased that local Greens are still campaigning for a park and ride in Swaythling, on Wide Lane, his 2014 Echo comments describing the Salisbury park and ride as a shining example are not forgotten.

Here is a familiar reminder on how the Green Party is not prepared to sleep walk into catastrophic climate change.

We acknowledge that manufactured goods from China supplying Western countries have a large part in contributing to future atmospheric damage.

As such we believe that rich countries can lead the way globally and build renewable energy projects while limiting our own consumption.

Perhaps by waking up and supporting the Green Party we can help piece together a better world.
