I WAS travelling down Twyford Road, Eastleigh, recently and was intrigued to see that some eight houses were about to be demolished.

A visit to the Eastleigh Borough Council planning department online, led me to Barratt Homes' website, where they proudly announced "Twyford Square is going to be a development of 161 one and two bedroom homes.'' The ratio of old homes to new homes in Eastleigh leads me to wonder, has the local infrastructure been taken into account? One only has to see the recent town centre developments that have gone ahead that has coincided with the sometime gridlock situations that Eastleigh town centre experiences.

With the ever-increasing density of homes per hectare, we should ask ourselves, are we building tomorrow's slums?

Didn't our ancestors in the mid-20th century get away from high density housing in order to give people and families a healthier lifestyle?

What price common sense and good healthy living?
