RECENTLY my son applied for one of a number of jobs advertised by the ASDA Store in Totton.

He attended two interviews and was then contacted by Lyn from Recruitment who said she wanted to talk to him about offering him a job.

She explained the job and said she was concerned he might not be able to do an early start due to the availability of buses.

He and I had already agreed that I would happily drive him to and from work if the hours were outside of the bus times.

He said getting there wouldn’t be a problem so she told him she would ‘speak to her manager and call him straight back’.

No call came, and two days later I told him to phone the store to find out what was happening.

The automated recruitment line number he had called previously announced it had closed.

He then tried contacting the store via the customer service number, but again could not make contact.

I worked in recruitment for a very large company for many years and it was always imperative that we let people know if they were not going to be offered a job as quickly as possible so they could continue to search elsewhere.

I wonder if there are others out there who were called on the grounds of ‘offering them a job’ who then heard nothing more too?
