CAN I convey my thanks that new bollards have gone up outside the Shell garage on Thomas Lewis Way.

This has taken two years to achieve even after the tragic accident involving a police officer at the very point that several residents had been complaining about – including myself – who suffered near misses by drivers ignoring the no-right-turn signs in and out of the petrol station.

On the day of the tragic accident I reported that I had a near miss. When I heard what had happened half an hour later, my heart sank. Why? Because until then no action had been taken despite several PACT meetings and complaints. I was then informed, when chasing up, that there was no funding to extend the isle to prevent the turnings. I then suggested using an extension of bollards to prevent this and now common sense has prevailed and the bollards are in place.

Let’s hope that this will end the indiscriminate turning right in and out of the garage and no more lives will be wasted or near misses accrued.
