I READ Alan Blandford’s letter in the Echo ‘Save our NHS from disaster’ (February 13) and I believe him to be right in every way.
On February 14 I read in the newspaper that 19 NHS hospitals face closure.
What a disgrace for this to happen in what is supposed to be a civilised country.
I have stated before in the Echo that in my opinion the NHS is the most important thing we have, and to put even a part of it into private enterprise will be disastrous as business men, for the most part, have only one thing in mind which is personal profit.
Being ill is bad enough in itself but to be faced with the thought of having to pay for private treatment would be terrifying in the extreme, even with private health insurance, for what happens if or when the money runs out?
Again, in my opinion, the Tories have been edging towards privatising the NHS for some years, just waiting for their chance for them and their mates in the city to make a fortune.
I quote from Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues “you don’t need to be a weather man to know which way the wind blows”.
