ALAN Kebbell (Letters, July 7) excercises his right - as most Christians do - to create God in his own image, and that would normally provoke no more than a wry smile.

However, when he strays into the realm of the rational and claims "evidence everywhere" for the existence of his particular God he needs to be challenged as this is dangerous territory.

He demonstrates nothing more than his ignorance of biology, not to mention paleontology and archaeology in asserting that one life form cannot evolve into something far more complex. Of course it can!

Geological evidence is overwhelming and there are no paradoxes or contradictions.

We are talking about a span of billions of years, not hundreds. Put simply, life as a force is far more adaptive than Mr Kebbell appreciates.

But when Mr Kebbell insidiously inserts the notion of intelligent design into his proposition that there is a real problem.

Trying to justify faith through logic is dangerous nonsense, for obvious reasons. For example, if God created the universe what created God - another God?

There is no scientific evidence whatsoever of intelligent design. Mr Kebbell's evangelical message is all about faith and belief, not evidence.

He veers into an assertion that his vision of God must be the right one because... well, because his God happens to thinks like he does, with his values.

But I would say to Mr Kebbell that whether he likes it or not, the 7/7 bombers were prepared and willing to die for their version of God so they must have a conviction at least as strong as his.
