AT THE end of the pier why not erect a scale model of the QE2 ie approx 50 foot long by 25 foot high or a three sided placard of similar size with a painting of the liner on each side. Also on the pier, a half sized model of the Spitfire 60 foot in the air tilted at 45 degrees and revolving or even swooping and climbing in an anti-clockwise direction as if in flight and floodlit for all to see.
Accompanied by a sign above the liner or three painting's: Welcome to Southampton Home of Ocean Cruising and The Spitfire.
All the above would be visible from the Town Quay, Mayflower park and passing ships and solve the ever present eyesore known as the pier plus a location for the Spitfire. Funding: the Lottery Commission, Cruise Lines, ABP to name just a few.
If there is a problem purchasing the pier for a minimum amount (I believe it changed hands for a token of a £1 in the past) put a compulsory purchase order on it.
Come on council: let's have some action.
