I WOULD like to clarify some points in the letter headlined I Have No Option But to Park in The City Centre (March 17).

Between 0635 and 0805, we operate the Bluestar 3 route every half-hour between Botley, Hedge End and Southampton, offering workers four arrivals in the city centre at 0717, 0747, 0822 and 0857, so hopefully this may provide the correspondent some useful commuting options by bus.

While we have faced some operational difficulties as a result of increased congestion in the area surrounding the M27 junction and Moorhill Roundabout during peak hours, the problem is beginning to ease, and we appreciate being able to take advantage of bus lanes along the route that can speed journey times up against the private car.

We are placing additional journey times into the timetable within the next few weeks to improve the situation and offer a more robust and realistic timetable.

I therefore encourage readers to keep an eye out for updates on our vehicles, our new website at bluestarbus.co.uk or our inquiry line on 023 8061 8233.

I am also interested to note the reader's mention of easing congestion, supporting local businesses and their mindful attempts "to do their bit" for the environment by car sharing - and we are pledging our support to local businesses and employees wishing to reduce their carbon footprint by offering our Get On Together' programme that allows reduced ticket prices for organisations and groups of employees that can purchase their bus passes in bulk.

ALEX HORNBY, operations manager, Bluestar.
