SO Solent Sky rebuild plans were turned down, maybe just as well because it's in the wrong position. Not many people know about it or even where it is.
Curator Alan Jones admits attendance is down since Ocean Village no longer attracts tourists. Rebuilding on the same site won't attract any more visitors. It needs to be more central to ther city, near the West Quay Road industrial estate.
It's a fine museum but a wonder it's remained open for so long with so few visitors. It's very important for Southampton and the history of the local aircraft industries, especially Supermarine, where many local people worked.
Could not the council who support the museum help find a new site in the grand plans for that area of the city?
