I READ with interest the article about the Dibden Bay debate. Plans to extend the port there were rejected the Labour Goverment but with the way they are running the country I'm sure they will be sidelined at the next election, so there is still hope!
Let's cut all the "we care about the environment and wildlife brigade".
I work in the docks and they are inundated with wildlife. We have had birds of prey nesting in our cranes, we get lots of oyster catchers around the terminal and have even had them nesting in some of our skips!
They don't seem too worried about the container terminal!
Let's cut all the snobbery too. Is Dibden Bay part of the New Forest National Park? I don't recall going over any cattle grids to get to Dibden bay or see any livestock wandering about freely like you do in the New Forest.
Let's move with the times. Anything that's going to secure a lot of jobs is good for us.
MR KEMP, Southampton.
