RE “We need our shop” by S Googe (Letters April 27) about the Esgro store in Thornhill, Southampton.
Wholehearted thanks – you put forward the feelings of many. The council held meetings prior to demolition of shops to listen to our needs. They emphasised that we would not be left with nothing. Shops had served on Hinkler Road Parade for 40 or more years. Never did we realise it would take months (if ever) to sort out a post office and general food store.
The council went back on their word. If we do not get a post office again the council has let us down very badly.
