IN MAY 2012 there will be local elections. Regardless of which political party wins, there will be serious financial challenges.
In the next financial year, this coalition Government will have delivered yet another reduction in Southampton City Council’s budget. This will lead to further cuts in essential services.
Despite this, in September’s council meeting the Conservative councillors outlined plans to increase borrowing for their favourite schemes.To pay this back, Southampton residents will face a bill of £6.1 million in interest charges.
