I NEED to comment on the Soapbox letter “Project just glorifies war”, Letters, November 19.
I also believe we should have a monument to remind us all of the time when camaraderie, a public sense of purpose, was at its best.
I disagree with the writer’s view that it glorifies war etc. The Spitfire was/is a beautiful piece of engineering and the artist’s impression, pictured above, of the Spitfire monument shows this beauty along with an essence of success and pride.
I vote to have this monument built and I am sure it will become a icon for Southampton (I hope nobody suggests a lift should be fitted).
