THE reorganisation of the bus numbers and routes seems to have caused a great amount of confusion.

May I suggest an alternative?

Scrap the numbers and label the routes in the way that people talk about their journeys, such as “into town”, “Up (or down) the hospital”, “Up the Avenue”, “Down the Docks”, “Up Shirley High Street” etc.

When people give directions to other people they use landmarks – why not do the same for the buses, eg “Round the back of Primark” or “Past the Cowherds”?

I am pretty sure it won’t catch on, but I bet when you read these suggestions you could picture the places in your head!
