I REFER to the letter regarding the flying of the Union flag (Daily Echo, June 27).
The British people are permitted to fly the Union flag wherever and whenever they wish.
There is no law to prevent this. It is, in fact, our right.
However, if you do not have a flagpole and wish to install one then you would need to get the relevant planning permission. I think Mrs Alma Donovan is possibly referring to this.
Personally, I have no problem with the Union flag appearing on various items.
My pet hate relates to the English Cross of St George. I do not need to be told that it is the flag of England so why do football fans (it is mostly them) have to have “ENGLAND”
written across the middle of the flag?
