ON JUNE 30 at approximately 6.30pm, a friend and myself were conveying a 1952 ambulance to pick up six lovely girls and take them to their prom at Chilworth Hotel.

While we were travelling down The Avenue in Southampton, the vehicle cut out and stopped. We couldn’t start the ambulance and so tried to push it. As we got to the roundabout at the end of The Avenue we couldn’t move it any further and this caused horrendous traffic jams.

Suddenly, three young lads offered to help us. My friend got in the driving seat and the lads and myself pushed the vehicle off the roundabout and down the road. We then got the engine going, collected the girls and transferred them to their destination.

I am writing to express my appreciation to the three lads.

They were a Godsend, without whom we would have been stuck and the girls wouldn’t have got to their prom on time.

There are good people out there and these lads proved that the youngsters of today are not all bad.
