AFTER reading of greedy people striking for bonuses and a swimming pool being shut by Southampton council, and then watching the swimming in the Olympics , we’ve got to change our attitude to sports.

Two brand new schools have been built in this city and, besides football, what other sports facilities do they have?

Do they have swimming pools to help coach future Olympic athletes?

Do they have track & field facilities?

I remember when King Edwards had a compulsory sports day on a Saturday and, even being a Bellemoor boy, I thought this was a great idea.

I’ve heard the arguments against it but take a look around – exactly what are children doing on the weekends?

I heard the president of the Olympic committee say it was started up again based on the British model of sport in schools and our rules. Isn’t it about time we got it back and made more school time turned over to teaching all types of sport?

We have athletes out there giving it their best but instead of trying to find ways to increase our chances we have bloodsuckers wanting to strike if they don’t get more money for doing their jobs during the Olympics – it’s a total disgrace.
