FEW cannot have viewed on TV some horrific reports regarding abuse or neglect within the NHS.
Hardly a month seems to pass without a sorry tale of people, particularly the elderly, allegedly being poorly treated. However, as a 65-year-old recovering from a knee replacement operation, it seems we never view reports about good practice within the NHS, of which I am certain there is a considerable amount.
My own experience, having undergone major surgery and through-care at the hands of the NHS (Care UK) at the Royal South Hants Hospital in Southampton , is that my treatment has consistently been as far removed from the stereotypical media portrayal of certain hospitals as could be imagined.
From start to finish – appointments, operation and post-op care, including physiotherapy – I have witnessed nothing but excellent, humane treatment and now, six weeks after the operation, am starting to walk normally again and feeling a whole lot better. So let’s shed a positive light on the NHS!
JOHN BOWERS, Southampton.
