MAY I enquire if readers would prefer to pay say an extra 2 or 3p more in income tax in exchange for scrapping inheritance tax?

In other words, your property including the home, collectables and savings are not again taxed after death. It will allow you to gift those to your beneficiaries so that they have more to live on, and not go looking for potential hand outs from the benefit system.

Income tax is collected at source which to me seems the fairest and easiest way to ensure it is paid.

You should be allowed to keep your assets, and then pass those on. You have paid for them and in the case of a mortgage, taken many years to do so. But for any Government to claim it is fair to take 40 per cent above, what is today, a small threshold is nothing more than pure theft.

If you agree with me, then say so.

Write here to your newspaper. And to your MP. Tell them you won’t vote them in at the General Election , until they do as they are told.

Inheritance tax is unjust.

This is not protecting the better off. It is an incentive to go out and make money, and that includes anyone and everybody.

People would then save for their old age, and in doing so, cope with the cost of care later on.

RICHARD GRANT, Burley.
