I COULD not believe my eyes when I read Peter Baillie’s letter about Erskine Court.

I have in my possession letters sent by Nick Cross, the council’s head of housing, to all the residents of Erskine Court when Peter Baillie was Cabinet member for housing.

Also the architects’ plans we were all given showing the houses to be built on the site following demolition.

That was in 2010. The recent independent report he refers to was a second set of architects’ plans, this time showing a block of flats to be built here after demolition.

All these were discussed by the residents at a series of meetings chaired by Peter Baillie.

None of his options were ever considered “acceptable”

by residents.

Perhaps Peter Baillie will be gladdened to know that the new Cabinet member for housing, Warwick Payne, who we were led to believe was against demolition, came to announce plans for just that.

So, after two years of trying to prevent a Conservative council from demolishing Erskine Court, it is now to be demolished by a Labour council.

We voted for our Labour councillors, and the new Labour council because they promised us that they would save our homes.

But Warwick Payne and Nick Cross have picked up matters exactly where Peter Baillie left off. Nothing changes when it comes to politicians, does it?
