I HAVE recently read an article about Team GB diver Tom Daley receiving abuse from a teenager on the Twitter website. This teenager was arrested but later bailed and let off with a warning.
The teenager commented about Tom letting down Britain and his father Rob who died in 2011. This was not a very appropriate thing to comment about and, yes, he should be scorned, but people in their millions receive abuse via the Internet and I have not once read about someone being arrested for a malicious or inappropriate comment.
I think it is absolutely ridiculous and petty that this teenager has been approached by the police and arrested.
Everyone is entitled to their own free will and free speech. It is the duty of the person receiving the comment to take it in their stride and move on with their own life. I am not in anyway condoning this teenager’s choice of words but I am just pointing out that this is a misuse of police time.
