Artist Sharon's ready to go pop
An Elstree painter is going from strength to strength in the world of art and entertainment.
Sharon Gee with her exhibition at the McNeill Fine Art Gallery in Radlett
Sharon Gee, 39, who has an exhibition at a gallery in Radlett, has been chosen to judge a older person's version of the hit television series Popstars, which followed the formation of the band Hear'Say.
Instead of looking for young talent, the ManBand series is searching for talented male singers over 60.
Sharon, whose paintings hang in the private collection of The Queen Mother and the English Rugby Football Union stadium, is judging the ManBand talent hunt, along with singer Kim Dolphin, who is also the mother of Richie from the band Five; singer and song-writer Cliff Nash, who is married to Maizie Williams of Boney M; and Roy Hemmings from The Drifters band.
At the first audition in London on April 21, the panel judged thousands of hopefuls, some of whom had flown in from the United States and other countries. The final five-man band is expected to be chosen by the end of this month.
Media agency company 15 Minutes, which is running the talent search, has hired a production company to film a documentary, which is then expected to be televised on one of the main television channels.
Agency director Kizzi Nkwocha explained why Sharon was chosen as a judge: "We wanted somebody who would represent our target record-buying market.
"She is also articulate and not afraid to say what she thinks."
Sharon said: "I think they thought I would make a good member-of-the-public point of view, as to what music I would like to hear and the kind of groups I would like to see singing it."
Sharon is exhibiting around 20 paintings, priced £495 to £1,095, at the McNeill Fine Art Gallery in Radlett's Watling Street, with artists John Luce Lockett and Alex Rennie, until Sunday, May 6.
