THE Wizard of Oz opens at Groundlings Theatre Portsmouth tomorrow ( Tuesday October 18)

The classic tale, made famous by the ground-breaking 1939 film featuring Julie Garland, will run throughout the half term holidays until October 29.

The production will feature all the popular songs, beloved characters and a little dog too. This is a show full of magical sets, incredible local talent and fabulous family entertainment.

We follow Dorothy, as she arrives in the peculiar land of Oz and must follow the Yellow Brick Road on her way to see the mysterious and magical Wizard who is able to get her back home safely. Meeting some amazing friends along the way, she also makes an enemy of the evil Wicked Witch of the West, who is after the magical ruby slipper Dorothy possesses. This is a unique tale of true courage and spirit, and leaves you always wondering if Dorothy will make it home to Kansas safely.

A production for people of all ages, the cast themselves includes munchkins as young as six, and members of the Company of Elders group (over 60s), who are all locally sourced, incredible talent.

Artistic Director of the theatre, and director of the show Richard Stride said: “Join us for a journey down the yellow brick road! Our set actually constructs the yellow brick road out into the audience so it fully immerses you into this magical world, and its like every seat is in the front row! This really is an experience you could only have at Groundlings, so don't miss out!”

The Wizard of Oz runs from October 18-29 with evening and afternoon performances.
