An evening of two short comedies by David Tristram, linked by satirical musical numbers amusingly performed by Minstead’s lighting designer, Mike Hutton.

In Joining The Club, a concise two-hander, a successful career woman (Cally Cooper, Jenny) discovers she is unexpectedly pregnant. Already nervous about breaking the news to her husband (Alistair Banks, Tom), she is unprepared for his own shocking news… This brave choice of contemporary, potentially controversial material to perform in a small village hall, was competently performed, but would have benefitted from more dynamics and grounding during the more confrontational moments to better portray the passionate, life-changing situation.

The second play, a spoof about amateur dramatics, was very well performed by the quartet (total membership of the fictitious group of would-be actors), with a good pace and particularly terrific comic aptitude from Stevie Parker (officiously pedantic Margaret), resonating loudly with anyone who may be involved with community theatre!
