It's still lots of fun to see this 'iconic' comedy, but could it lack the radical bite one might hope for today, when, finally, real British students are protesting in the streets?

JAMES FORSTER makes the graduate Ben Braddock his own, perhaps a little less exotic than Dustin Hoffman, but as confused, angry, purposeful and amusing. ELLIE BLACKLOCK matches him well as passionate, honest Elaine. She's delightful in a drunk scene with her notorious mum, who LUCY HUGHES makes as substantial as she deserves, though she might crack up a little more during the confrontational scenes, in the manner ALEXANDER CURTIS demonstrates as Mr Robinson.

SAM DOBSON and SALLY WHITE enhance proceedings as Ben's parents, the former with painfully paternal 'concern', the latter with a wonderfully shrill American accent.

Fortunately, the really excellent acting in this production (directed by ALEX BOWEN and first timer TOBIAS WINTER) mostly transcends the day's concerns.
