DIRECTOR David Tatnall’s Gilbert and Sullivan light operas always have a touch of pantomime about them, but this was still a first step into hitherto uncharted territory.

With brother Richard sharing the honours as director and scriptwriter, the two combined as Ugly Sisters Kate and Pippa (no similarity with the Middletons!) and were hilarious, as was the whole cast.

The risqué script kept the adults in stitches but there was always plenty for the youngsters to enjoy. Eve Lethbridge’s portrayal as Cinderella was excellent, with Abigail Miller a very confident Prince Charming. Steven Lilly’s personality shone brightly as Buttons and Matt Sturgeon maintained an impressive accent as Baron Hardupp.

Soraya Scrivener knitted the story together well as Fairy Nuff, but, predictably, Mark Ponsford’s Dandini was always at the heart of the comedy.

Great audience participation, inventive props, sumptuous costumes and Martin Patterson’s musical trio, what’s not to love about it all!
