WONDERFUL atmosphere, fizzy and expressive music and a brilliant reception from the audience, fantastic soloists both choir and band, and happy musical director – what more could you want!

These were the scenes at Southampton Central Hall when the Royal Marines Retired Association Concert Band, regal in their smart red uniforms, gave a concert in conjunction with Southampton Choral Society, resplendent in their jade green.

The programme was a mixture of light classics, as well as a specially composed tribute to Armed Services Day.

It was followed by James Bond themed music, coupled with opera choruses from the 90-strong choir and accompanied by the full band, plus Duke Ellington jazz.

A brilliant ‘combo’ in the band took over for this section and soloists from the choir really got into character with blues singing, then West Side Story and Les Misérables.

The audience were bouncing in their seats and joining in where possible, and smiles were the order of the evening.

It was such a delight to be there!
